Torture Scene in Metal Gear Solid 5 Won’t Be Playable

Kojima states that the torture scene in Metal Gear Solid 5 is only a cutscene.

A torture scene featured in Metal Gear Solid 5 won’t be playable said director Hideo Kojima in an interview with Eurogamer. The scene will only be in a cutscene.

When asked if those scenes were necessary, Kojima said, “If the violence will give new emotions that are important to the game, I want to put it in there, especially with this game where one of the main topics is revenge,” Kojima explained. “I don’t want to walk around that.”

The Phantom Pain, like other MGS, will use torture to further the plot of the game. In the 1998 original, Solid Snake is tortured by Revolver Ocelot. Unlike Grand Theft Auto V, the latest installment of Metal Gear Solid will not feature playable torture.

“I didn’t want to go as far as having playable torture,” said Kojima. “The part of Metal Gear Solid 5 that has torture is non-playable.”

“So far the player’s been tortured by Ocelot so much that I’m thinking that I might be the one that introduced torture to games,” he joked. “So I’m sorry about that!”

Do you think the torture scene may be too much? Grand Theft Auto V is already receiving criticism for having a playable torture scene. How do you think everyone will handle Metal Gear Solid’s scene?
