E3 Vs Ouya: The Parking Lot War

According to Ouya's founder Julie Uhrman the Entertainment Software Association called the LAPD to shut down Ouya's booth which is located in a parking lot across the street from the Convention center.

With all the new information regarding the Ps4, the Xbox One and the array of next-gen games that are coming our way, does anyone remember the Ouya? Yes the Ouya, that small, android-based console that mustered over 10,000 developers with a lower price point than any other console in the market ($99). Well, the Entertainment Software Association seems to remember the mini console.

Last month, Ouya’s Kellee Santiago confirmed that the Ouya team would have a booth at E3 to showcase their new console, but he revealed that the booth would be in a parking lot directly across from the Convention Center’s South hall (address is 601 W. Pico Blvd.).

According to Ouya’s founder Julie Uhrman, E3 called the Los Angeles Police Department to shut down the Ouya Booth which is located in a rented parking lot across the street from the Convention Center, after determining that the Ouya team had all the necessary permits to be there the LAPD left without taking any further action.

In an attempt to block passersby from noticing Ouya’s presence the company which owns and operates E3 rented out a parking lot in front of Ouya’s booth and parked semi-trucks to obstruct the view. In response, the Ouya team rented the lot in front of the semi-trucks to display Ouya banners which is why the ESO called the LAPD in the first place.

Uhrman stated that, despite being unfairly targeted by the ESA, the Ouya team intends to increase their street presence during the second day of E3.

“If ten more trucks show up, we’ll come up with another idea. I have a few up my sleeve.”
