Square Enix Sparks Crisis Core Remake Rumors with New Ever Crisis Trademark

A new Square Enix trademark could point to a Crisis Core remake on the way.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is probably a long way off still, but a new trademark suggests Square Enix may be working on a new Crisis Core game.

Gematsu first reported Square Enix trademarked the terms “Ever Crisis” and “The First Soldier” in Japan earlier in January, along with the Shinra logo. On its own, that shouldn’t raise many eyebrows even with the Crisis Core and Sephiroth connotations. Companies trademark things all the time, many of which never see the light of day.

However, Square Enix trademarked the same term in Europe and Canada recently, making it a bit less likely these “Ever Crisis” trademarks are some kind of pipe dream that’ll never make it out of research and development.

Whether it means Ever Crisis is a Crisis Core remake that frees the game from the PlayStation Portable (yes, please), or Square Enix is planning on Zack and Aerith figurines and a Sephiroth plushie (also acceptable) remains to be seen.

Crisis Core is essentially a mainline Final Fantasy game instead of a spinoff, as Final Fantasy 7 relies heavily on Crisis Core. Final Fantasy 7 Remake does as well and also monkeys around with the story quite a bit, so a new Crisis Core game tying in with that isn’t entirely out of the realms of possibility.
