Shenmue 3 Kickstarter reaches beyond $6.3 million

Shenmue 3 has gained over $6.3 million through Kickstarter backers, making history on Kickstarter as the most funded video game campaign.

Series creator Yu Suzuki is presenting a third installment in the Shenmue series and requested during this year's E3 convention that fans contribute $2 million towards making this installment a reality. Within a month of announcing the campaign during PlayStation's E3 conference, over $6.3 million has been funded by fans making certain that a series they adore will continue.

Working towards a goal

Fans around the world contributed as much as they could to make Shenmue 3 a reality, understanding that the large milestone of $10 million was required to make the game truly "open world". Sony will additionally be providing an uncertain amount of money to assist with the production, marketing, and publishing of Shenmue 3. But what is certain, is that over $2 million has been raised, so the game will be produced.

While this is a large goal, the $6.3 million that was raised has put Shenmue 3's Kickstarter campaign into Kickstarter history as the most funded video game campaign.

Release and Expectations

With the $6.3 million raised, Shenmue 3 will be produced but unfortunately the amount to make the game "truly open world" was not obtained. The target date for release is December 2017 on the PlayStation 4 and PC.

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter had 69,320 backers calculating $6,333,296 in total.

Great job on making Kickstarter history Shenmue 3. What do you think of those incredible backer numbers?

It was this year's E3 Courtney, not last year's. Also did you play previous games? I missed the dreamcast glory days so I missed out on the Shenmue hype.

Thanks for correcting me Gabriel! Fixed the typo to this year's E3.

Also I haven't played the previous games, but my friends have and are totally into it. So much hype going around their social media!
