Thomas Was Alone Review: I’m Glad I Found Him

I review Thomas Was Alone

Thomas was alone. Thomas was a great character built with an incredible backstory and a lovable personality. Thomas was the type who would give anything to make the world a better place. Thomas was a square.  Literally. No joke, he was a square.

With the recent indie Humble Bundle sale, I was able to pick up the 2010 indie game Thomas Was Alone. I admit, I had not heard of the game before, much to the surprise of many of you I’m sure. Somehow the game slipped through my radar and for that I am incredibly sorry.

This game is more than I ever imagined a game about a square could be. Every time something happens, I immediately gasp like I am a child listening to my grandpa tell a new, fantastic story for the first time.  I learn the importance of perseverance, the value of friendship, and a lesson in teamwork.

I wish I could tell you how great Thomas Was Alone is.

At its core, the game is a puzzle game where you must solve each level to get to the next. The graphics are not that great considering that this is basically an extended flash game you would find on Kongregate. What makes the game great though is the story.

The narration is top notch and I found that I was emotionally invested by the end and that is a hard thing for me to do. I’m not the type that tends to cry at the movies or ball while reading a book. This time though, I shed a few tears playing Thomas Was Alone

It was the first time since the end of Mass Effect 3 that I cried for the characters, albeit for VERY different reasons.

In the end, I can’t say much about the game except you need to play it. In fact, if you are reading this, then get off right now and go download it on Steam.  Don’t worry, I won’t mind. This is an experience you need to have.

Thomas Was Alone, but I’m glad for the chance I had to live in his world.
