Mortal Kombat X, the bloody and violent fighting game coming out next year is going to be getting a live-action counterpart, Warner Bros. announced earlier today.

Unfortunately for us, Warner Bros. isn’t sharing much information about the details of the series, saying today during the announcement that “it will highlight some of the franchise’s most storied characters, while introducing a new generation of fighters.”

This new untitled Mortal Kombat series is in production at Blue Ribbon Content, which is a newly created division of Warner Bros. in charge of developing and producing short-form content.

The new series will follow in the footsteps of other live-action Mortal Kombat projects such as Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which debuted in 2011 and explored the characters and storyline of the original Mortal Kombat game.

It does not look like this new series has any ties to 2011’s Legacy, although that comes as no surprise given Legacy’s creator and director Kevin Tancharoen’s recent departure.

There has been no word on when we can expect this series to launch, where it might launch, or if any notable actors are involved, but only time will give us more information.

Mortal Kombat X the game launches April 14, 2015 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Avid fans of the illustrious fighting franchise now have two major things to look forward to concerning their precious game over the next year.

Needless to say we are all grateful that Warner Bros. was able to resurrect the struggling franchise and bring us all the gore that we have grown to love about Mortal Kombat that last two decades.

Born a gamer, living a gamers life, and will die a gamer. I vividly recall playing Mortal Kombat 1 for the first time, I just happened to be 4 years old. Thankfully I didn't grow up to become a psycho who rips peoples hearts out, I grew up to be a writer, which is significantly less violent. However In my spare time I do rip people's hearts out via my Xbox 360 or PlayStation 4. A down to earth college student looking to get his start in video game writing.
