Step By Step: Updating Xbox One With Day One Patch Offline

Wanna update your Xbox One with the mandatory day one patch without going online? Here's how.

Good news: Xbox One can be played offline.  Bad news: the day one patch is mandatory even if you don’t ever want to connect your new console to the net.  For those of you looking to get your machine up and running offline, here’s how you do it with nothing more than a minimum two gigabyte USB stick.

Recommended Videos
  1. Find out what operating system your Xbox One is using.  Alternately, use two USB sticks and download both versions, then try them one at a time.
  2. Unzip the patch files onto your USB stick(s).  Make sure the USBs are formatted properly as NTFS.
  3. Power off and unplug your Xbox One completely and wait 30 seconds.
  4. Plug your patch USB into one of the console’s USB ports.
  5. Plug the power cord back in.
  6. Hold the bind and eject buttons while powering the console back on.
  7. Listen for two tones during the powering-up process.
  8. Release the two buttons and enjoy your console!

Those two tones are the console recognizing and then successfully installing a USB update.  If you don’t hear them, it is possible you attempted to use the wrong patch for your console’s operating system.  For other troubleshooting, hit Microsoft’s support page.
