Steam Machine Components Cost More Than PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U combined

The glorious PC Master Race might need another job.

The first 300 prototype Beta Steam Machines went out earlier this week, and this iFixit Teardown adds up the component cost to about $1,300. That would be enough money to go full-on with new-gen consoles and furnish a living room with a PS4, Xbox One, and WiiU.

The Teardown is just what you might think it is: the iFixit team completely dismantled the Steam Machine and is showing off the step-by-step process with glorious hi-res images.

If you were wondering what the Steam Machine might look like under the hood, look no further. That $1,300 is going to a good cause: these machines pack quite the punch. Keep in mind this is the prototype configuration; by the time of release there will be other configuration options, and Valve promises a large degree of customization.

Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5

Graphics Card: Zotac GeForce 780, with 3 GB of VRAM

Memory: 16 GB of RAM

Storage: 1 terabyte Seagate hybrid SSD

Additionally, all components in the system are replaceable and upgradable. We’ve included a few images below of the Teardown, but we highly suggest you check out the full article here. It’s pretty awesome:

Would you rather have one of these awesome Steam Machines or all three new-gen consoles for the same price? We are VERY interested to hear your responses!
