Diablo III Crosses the 15 Million Mark

If you've played and enjoyed Diablo III, you're hardly the only one.

It’s a legendary name in the world of video games.

Therefore, it’s fitting that the latest entry has sold so well. Activision Blizzard has announced that Diablo III has moved 15 million copies across all platforms. The game originally launched for PC in May 2012, and then came to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. A PS4 version is reportedly in the works, but we haven’t heard anything about an Xbox One installment. We have to assume it’s coming, though.

The highly anticipated expansion pack, Reaper of Souls, is slated to hit the PC and Mac on March 25. This has also been confirmed for PS4 though again, there’s no word on PS3 or Xbox 360/Xbox One iterations.

Diablo III received rave reviews when it came out (with a few exceptions), and that undoubtedly helped spur sales. However, let’s face it–this franchise can sell on its name alone, regardless of critical reception. This 15 million isn’t so much about the quality, but about the iconic name.

A worthy experience on a console?

Those who’ve played it on the PS3 and 360 say it is, but PC fanatics remain unconvinced. At the very least, the developers say they’ve worked very hard to optimize the game for the PS4, so maybe that’s where it will shine brightest. That’s the version I intend to play, at any rate. I really don’t have a gaming-quality PC and I really don’t want one, either.
