You can probably blame Star Fox Zero’s delay on the Wii U GamePad

Ironically, the need for speed is the reason for Star Fox Zero's slow release.

Depending on how you look at it, there may be a silver lining in Star Fox Zero‘s delayed release. In an interview with Gamespot, Platinum Games’ Yusuke Hashimoto stated that the game was being delayed to give it that “Platinum feel.”

He compared the game’s development to Bayonetta 2, stating that Star Fox Zero has an extra challenge in how they are implementing the Wii U GamePad’s extra screen. While Bayonetta 2 used the controller as a simple touchpad, Star Fox Zero has to make the game work on two screens in tandem.

We’ve got them both moving at 60 fps, which is big for a lot of people, I think. But I think that it’s kind of a milestone in gaming, in a way. It’s not something that we have done ourselves before at Platinum, and it’s just not even something that has been done in gaming before. So it’s a lot of new challenges.

In the end, Hashimoto’s statements all came down to one thing: quality. He wants the final game to reflect well on his company’s past record of delivering fast-paced, fluid action games.

Do you think game quality is worth pushing Star Fox Zero past its holiday release date? Let us know in the comments.
