No More Diablo 3 Auction Houses?!

That's right, as of today the auction houses are closed permanently.

[Editor’s Note:  In writing this article initially, i had stated the Auction houses were going down permanently.  At the time of writing it, that was how I took the information that was written by Lylirra.  Edits to that have been made]

According to Lylirra, a Community Manager, Diablo III is losing its gold and real money Auction Houses.

What happened? There was a gold duplication bug found after the release of the 1.0.8 Patch this morning and some sneaky Petes were exploiting it to get tons of free gold.  People were using this to buy and resell items, which was creating an imbalance in the marketplace.

Based on what Lylirra posted, it looks like they found and fixed the bug causing these issues but as a unanimous decision, Blizzard has decided to just pull the whole thing temporarily for various reasons.

Mind you that a decision like this most likely was not made lightly.  Lylirra even states that relatively few people actually use it very often.  This does not negate the fact that those few that have been using it in a normal fashion are feeling the pain of losing it.

At this point, many fans in the forums have requested a roll back to a previous patch but it seems Blizzard has spoken and there is not much we can do.
