Soundcloud: GameSkinny Checks in with the BBC to Discuss EVE’s DDoS Woes

British journalists on the radio talking about games - we're not all bond villains or foppish dandies you know, some of us even have straight teeth.

Adam Rosser, correspondent on BBC Radio Five Live and friend of GameSkinny, was curious about the DDoS attack on the EVE Universe‘s Tranquility game server and gave me a call for some more information.

Due to an unplanned bicycle malfunction, I ended up making my debut game report for the BBC via a crackling phone line from a grassy knoll somewhere in Hertfordshire – literally in-the-field journalism.

As well as my attempts to explain the circumstances of the DDoS attack and discuss CCP’s handling of it, Adam talks to CVG’s Ben Griffin about Borderlands 2 (ride the “poop train”!) and Army of Two. The highlight here was Ben’s love-em-and-leave-em approach to gaming when asked if Army of Two has a place in his heart. ‘It did for a week’ came the flippant reply.

A recorded interview with Huw Beynon, former head of communications for the ill-fated THQ, sets the stage for Adam and Eurogamer’s Rich Stanton to discuss the against-the-odds surprise hit Metro: Last Light.

For my next trick I will be delivering a report from the bottom of a boating lake. Maybe.

Broken paramedic and coffee-drinking Englishman whose favourite dumb animal is an oxymoron. After over a decade of humping and dumping the fat and the dead, my lower spine did things normally reserved for Rubik's cubes, bringing my career as a medical clinician to an unexpectedly early end. Fortunately, my real passion is in writing and given that I'm now highly qualified in the art of sitting down, I have the time to pursue it. Having blogged about video games (well, mostly EVE Online) for years, I hope to channel my enjoyment of wordcraft and my hobby of gaming into one handy new career that doesn't involve other people's vomit.
