Rayman Legends Goes Multiplatform

Can the WiiU compete without exclusives?

Rayman is WiiU Exclusive No More

IGN reports that Rayman Legends has jumped from a WiiU exclusive to a multiplatform game. Ubisoft’s CEO has admitted one reason behind the decision was the belief that the game wouldn’t sell enough copies on the WiiU.

While he says the reason is he wanted as many people to enjoy the game as possible, that is just CEO speak for “If we keep this on the WiiU we’re not making any money”. Now the game has been ready for WiiU since February but Ubisoft opted to delay the game until September in order to release the PS3 and 360 versions simultaneously. They have in the process added 30 new levels.

I wrote an article about Nintendo that got a little more in depth than I’m about to; basically I pose the question of where Nintendo goes in the next generation. Whether you agree or not the best system Nintendo has to compete with the Xbox One or PS4 is the WiiU. It is a technilogically inferior product to gamers.

One of the few things Nintendo has going for it is exclusives. Now we hear that some exclusives are backing out based on projected sales. That’s not good news. If Mario and Kirby were available on Xbox would anyone ever play WiiU?

Not that Rayman is anywhere close to the popularity of Mario, but it’s just a question. What do you think? Are you happy Rayman is coming to other systems? What would happen if Nintendo lost its exclusives–would you still own their systems?
