Gearbox Confirms More Borderlands 2 DLC, Brand New Next-Gen Franchise

Can't get enough Borderlands 2? You're in luck

In a response to a curious fan on Twitter, Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford confirmed that we’d be getting more information about further Borderlands 2 DLC
tomorrow.

Pitchford had previously mentioned that more content for the popular RPG shooter was in the pipeline. Speaking on Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist podcast, Pitchford said:

“We did a Season Pass for Borderlands 2, and the Season Pass was like, ‘hey, if you buy the Season Pass we’re going to be doing four campaign DLCs, but you can get all four of them for the price of three if you buy upfront.’ So everyone has this expectation that those would be the four DLCs and then that’s it. We’re going to do more. We’re going to do some other things. If you are a Borderlands fan, you don’t have to be afraid that that’s the end of it.”

The recently released expansion Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep has been hailed by many as the best Borderlands DLC yet (in a field of pretty stiff competition), so
it’s not surprising that Gearbox and publisher 2K would want to capitalize on that success.

Pitchford also mentioned that Gearbox was developing a new franchise for the next generation of consoles. Though details were scant, Pitchford expressed enthusiasm
about developing something original.

“We are building an original IP for the next generation that we’ll announce sometime later. Obviously we have Borderlands, we’ve got Brothers in Arms, we’ve got Duke Nukem and we acquired Homeworld recently. So we have all of those great brands, but we’re actually creating some new things that we’ll announce. So that will be something to look forward to.”
