Code Vein Closed Network Test Slashes Onto PS4, Xbox One

Bandai Namco has announced when and how you can be part of the Code Vein closed network test.

Bandai Namco’s Souls-like ARPG Code Vein still doesn’t have a release date. However, the company has revealed that a closed network test will become available to some players starting “later” in May.

Ironically, there was no firm timeframe provided for the test’s start and end dates. Bandai Namco simply said that information would be released “soon.”

As of this writing, it’s clear, though, that the test will be conducted on the PS4 and Xbox One. Those interested in participating can register here. Registration does not guarantee that players will be selected for the test. Interestingly, PC is not currently part of the network test.

Alongside the network test, gameplay previews have started popping up across several industry publications. While not confirmed, both the network test and the gameplay previews signal that a Code Vein release date announcement could come soon.

Code Vein closed network test coming in May

Code Vein was originally unveiled in 2017. It was later delayed to “sometime” in 2019 “to further refine its gameplay in an effort to exceed the expectations fans already have of the title,” according to Bandai Namco.

Code Vein will feature both single-player and multiplayer elements. Its gameplay is inspired by the Souls series, including Dark Souls and its spiritual “spinoff,” Bloodborne. According to reports from publications such as Polygon, the game features elements from those series, such as strategic boss battles and lots of dying.

The story elements of Code Vein revolve around vampires and blood-centric imagery, the latter another nod to games like Bloodborne. Players are thrust into an apocalyptic world where magic and combat reign supreme. From the screens and trailers that have been released so far, the game also clings to a strong anime aesthetic.

Named one of our most anticipated RPGs of the year, Code Vein will release later this year on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
