Red Dead Redemption 2 Ships Over 25 Million Copies

Demand remains high for Rockstar and Take-Two's open-world Western adventure, while the online variant is expected to continue to grow.

Take-Two Interactive recently held its Q1 2020 earnings conference call and announced a new milestone for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Between its launch less than a year ago and June 30, the game has shipped 25 million copies worldwide (though the number of shipped copies doesn’t often equal the number of sold copies). However, it does suggest demand is high nonetheless.

In May, the number shipped was at 24 million, so that’s an additional 1 million from the beginning of May to the end of June alone.

No specific sales numbers were given. However, during the call Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company expects record-setting revenue from Rockstar’s online offerings. These consist of Red Dead Online and Grand Theft Auto Online, collectively called Rockstar Online.

Zelnick also didn’t offer much concrete detail about how profitable each game currently is, but with GTA Online‘s new expansion and RD Online‘s massive amounts of content plus substantial updates, it’s not surprising Take-Two expects great things from both games.

Take-Two is apparently planning even more content for both online games as well, which Zelnick expects to help drive revenue further. When it will be released or what sort of content it might be, Zelnick didn’t say.

As yet, RD Online hasn’t received an expansion comparable to GTA Online‘s latest content, so it seems likely something substantial along those lines could be in order in the future during this fiscal year.

Meanwhile, while increased sales and revenue might be what most companies long for with their products, it might end up putting Rockstar in a rather difficult position overseas
