PlayStation France Info Page May Have Confirmed PS5 Backwards Compatibility

The now-revised page had some interesting tidbits concerning the DualShock 5 and what it will be compatible with.

PlayStation France recently posted an informational page comparing the PlayStation 4’s three models. Normal, boring stuff, right? Except this time, it might just point to PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility thanks to a mention of the DualShock 5.

The original page has since been revised, but ResetEra user Vestan captured a screenshot of the original comparison chart. It lists controller compatibility for each model, and more importantly, it lists the “DS4” and “DS5” as compatible with each.

Given the context, it’s safe to assume DS5 refers to the DualShock 5, which means the PlayStation 5 would be fully backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4, even down to the PS5 controller working with the PS4.

Even though we don’t have official confirmation the PS5’s controller will be called the DualShock 5, Sony’s naming trends since the dawn of PlayStation mean the likelihood of it being called something else is pretty low.

Assuming this original page wasn’t some horrible typo or mishap on the part of some poor PlayStation France employee, it would be in line with Sony’s earlier statement about backwards compatibility being highly important for the PlayStation 5. While it doesn’t confirm the PS5 would be backwards compatible all the way back to the original PlayStation, it’s a step in the right direction. The PS4 isn’t even compatible with the PS3 after all.

Speculation is rife that with Sony skipping E3 yet again, it may be gearing up for another February console reveal like we got for the PS4. Whatever happens, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more PlayStation 5 and next-gen news as it develops.
