Gory Teaser Trailer for The Outlast Trials Sets Up 2021 Release

The next installment in the Outlast series isn't for the squeamish or faint of heart.

A brutal teaser trailer for The Outlast Trials was released over the weekend during the PC Gaming Show, giving fans their first look at the upcoming survival horror game from Red Barrels.

The trailer doesn’t provide much in the way of new information about the game, other than it will release sometime in 2021 for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. As of this writing, there is no mention of The Outlast Trials being exclusive to Epic’s storefront.

According to the game’s developer, The Outlast Trials can be played alone or with up to three other players (four total). No mention of asymmetric multiplayer has yet been made, so it seems The Outlast Trials is a more traditional cooperative experience.

The game is set in the same universe as the previous two Outlast games, but it is not a direct sequel

Though Red Barrels has said that The Outlast Trials will prominently feature the nefarious Murkoff Corporation yet again, it’s unclear if the game will revisit either Mount Massive Asylum or Temple Gate. If franchise history has any bearing on the game’s setting, it will be an entirely new location (but that’s pure speculation at this point).

As of this writing, the Steam page for The Outlast Trials says that it features full controller support and cross-platform multiplayer. The game has not yet been announced for consoles. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on the game as we learn it.
