Remote Play Lets You Stream PlayStation 5 Games on PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 5 Remote Play app lets you stream PS5 games on your PS4 and uses the DualShock 4 as a controller.

PlayStation 4’s Remote Play app lets players stream PlayStation 5 games on their PS4 using a DualShock 4. Sony slipped the announcement into the big PS5 FAQs list it published recently, where the company also outlined DualSense battery life and other features.

The PS4 Remote Play for PS5 games feature works the same as it does under other circumstances. The PS4 console connects to the PS5, assuming Remote Play is enabled, and then it runs a PS5 game of your choosing.

If Remote Play isn’t active, follow these steps to activate it:

  • Access the “Settings” menu
  • Choose “System”
  • Then choose “Remote Play”
  • Turn “Enable Remote Play” on

Eurogamer reports the DS4 can even access the PS5’s Activities center.

However, this is the only time the DualShock 4 can control a PS5 game, and it obviously won’t support any of the DualSense’s unique features such as adaptive triggers.

The DS4 can control other settings on the PS5, including resolution, but it won’t work with PS5 games played on the actual PS5.

While it was interesting pondering whether Sony planned on using Remote Play to stream PlayStation games on Switch, it’s much more likely this was the intention all along. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more PlayStation 5 news as it develops.
