Payday 2 Profitable But Hasn’t Even Been Released Yet

The sequel to Payday: The Heist is in the green a week prior to its release

Indie Gamers Rejoice!

Overkill Studios (whose parent company is Starbreeze), the developers behind Payday: The Heist, has announced that Payday 2 is already profitable from pre-orders. The game releases on August 13th on Steam and heads to consoles before the 16th.

Payday 2 expands the first game by adding more heists (30 as opposed to the originals 7) and how you play affects the next level in the game (and ultimately, re-playability).

While this isn’t groundbreaking video game news it does make me happy to see an indie developer like Starbreeze, a studio EA tossed aside once upon a time, be profitable while making their game basically on their own. It’s like Kevin Smith making Clerks with his own money. I can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy inside to see a success story.

I played Payday: The Heist a while back at a friends house and enjoyed it. The gameplay was exciting and fun even if overall it was imperfect. It felt like a baby brother to Left 4 Dead. I actually forgot about it completely until I heard about this sequel and I may keep my eyes peeled for a sale on Steam.

How do you guys feel about it? Anyone a huge fan of Payday or really hate it? Let me know in the comments down below!
