Resident Evil 7 Will Return to Survival Horror, Says Capcom

Resident Evil will return to survival horror after the commercial failure of Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil has seen a huge departure from its survival horror routes, but no, more says Capcom.

Former Capcom marketing boss Michael Pattison told MCV, “We have obviously seen the consumer response and the PR response.” He acknowledges that Resident Evil 6 tried to do too much and ultimately failed.

 He goes on to say,

“…there was a cry out for us to focus our attention on survival horror, rather than be too many things to all people. You’ll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase.

He finishes by saying

“A lot is said about the saturation of this zombie, post-apocalyptic survival horror. But it is still alive and well. The Last of Us shows a good direction of what the consumers want. Tomb Raider as well, we spoke to R&D and they looked at that and they enjoyed that experience.”

Capcom is finally listening to us and seems determined to make a change to the series rather than throw in the towel all together. Resident Evil 6 featured three different campaigns, and the gameplay and plot really suffered as a result. The older games were so simple, yet effective, so it will be interesting to see what direction the series will take.
