The next Riddick game will be… an MMO?

The Chronicles of Riddick may be coming to an MMO near you!

Last week Vin Diesel did an interview with ScreenCrush (a press junket for the release of the new Riddick movie) and revealed an interesting tidbit about the next Riddick game.

Within the last few months they have in fact reassembled the team from Starbreeze Studios (makers of Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena ) to make the third game.

Which confirms what he said back in July when he did an interview with IGN (that flew under everyone’s radar) where he said pretty much the same thing in regards to the getting the Starbreeze gang back together. But that wasn’t even the biggest thing about the IGN interview. He actually tucked in some pretty hefty Furyan nuggets o’ knowledge about the game’s details, like…

Instead of fleshing out the mythology we saw in the Chronicles of Riddick (a film I actually enjoyed) via film, which would have cost tens of millions of dollars to do… they’re going to show all that through video games. At far less cost to those involved. Diesel said the next game is a huge concept – “more of an MMO game” – that will focus on living life as a merc and playing out the merc trade.

Riddick has been one of my favorite film characters since I first saw Pitch Black thirteen years ago. He ranks right up there with Mad Max as far as I’m concerned. And Escape from Butcher Bay is one of the more underrated shooters in gamingdom. So to have the same team working on a Riddick MMO?

Yes, please.

But what about the immediate future? Diesel mentioned that a Riddick app was coming to the iPad, but no other details have dropped as of yet.

We’ll be sure to bring you more news as it develops. Until then, if you haven’t played the first two games… what are you waiting for?
