Wind Waker HD Will Not Contain Missing Dungeons

Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD Remake Will Not See Cut Dungeons.

Legend of Zelda fans were excited to hear about the announcement of a full HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. For a while, there was speculation as to what new content may surface in this version of the game. The original Wind Waker had several dungeons that were cut before the final product was released, so fans thought this may be brought back.  But according to series’ producer, Eiji Aonuma, these missing dungeons are not showing up in the HD remake because they were already used in later games.

It’s very obvious that placing dungeons that have already been used would conflict with players that are very familiar with all of the games.  There would be no challenge because fans would already know how to solve the dungeons’ puzzles, leading to major disappointment and putting the Zelda franchise in a bad position.

But there is a reason for the lack of a dramatic change in content.

Aonuma stated:

“I’ve received many questions about additional content beyond what was in the GameCube version of the game, but our desire is to stay true of the story that was in the original.”

By adding content that is very different from the original, it will take away from what was loved in the original Gamecube version. Think about one of the games you’ve played that you absolutely loved and what would happen if that classic was altered with the addition of new content.  The rest of the story would be changed, and this may change the entire feeling of the game.

But don’t worry, there are small changes coming to the remake.

Aonuma asserted,

“I feel that what was wrong with the GameCube version was the pacing. It was thrown off because it took longer to get to certain dungeons. There was a waiting period, and then when you arrived there the experience maybe didn’t feel as big, as you’d waited so long to get there.”

“We’re tuning the game to alleviate all that. The pacing should feel appropriate to the overall experience this time. We need to tighten those [gaps] and make the overall experience and story feel tighter.”

While nothing is specifically stated, let’s hope these changes are made for the benefit of this beloved game. I’m hoping the changes affect the search for the triforce shards in order to fix the tedious, somewhat repetitive nature of that task.

What do you hope will be changed in the Wind Waker game?
