It truly is frustrating when a title gets delayed, not only for the fans and consumers but for the developers and publishers who put the time and money into reaching their deadline. Not only do we, the consumers/fans/fanatics, fear a title delay, game companies fear them just as much if not more, since missing a deadline means loss of profit… and people need to eat.
So with that in mind… imagine how a big time company, trying to have enough games for a new console, must feel when incredibly popular launch titles GET DELAYED! Nintendo isn’t exactly happy about delaying these titles, but at least there’s a greater chance of the games being a success. It really is for the best, for the games at least. It’s better to have a properly working / entertaining game, than to have a big flop to initiate the launch of your most anticipated (for better or worse) console. It seems that Nintendo isn’t that worried… or maybe they are since They could be knocked off their “family fun” throne.
Games included in the delay are:
- Game & Wario
- The Wonderful 101
- Pikmin 3
- and probably the most anticipated (by sheer numbers), Wii Fit U
Since PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles have dropped in price, and have acquired more family friendly titles (especially Xbox’s Kinect) Nintendo’s place as the unquestionable go to family entertainment company has diminished. If Nintendo doesn’t have a successful launch period (the short few months when a console launches) Microsoft or Sony could take over as the head honcho of the gaming industry. Of course, Valve could be a third contender with their ‘console’ being released soon.
All things considered, I have faith that Nintendo can pull it off. The Wii U is a solid system and I look forward to owning one in March (MONSTER HUNTER! YA!), while this is a major blow to it’s reputation as a reliable platform the Wii U’s launch period should be a success.
