Pokemon Day 2020 Brings the Five-Star Party (Favors) to Pokemon GO

Expect Clone Pokemon and party-going Pikachu to make an appearance to coincide with Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.

Pokemon Day is February 27. It’s the day the first Pokemon titles launched in Japan, and Pokemon GO always observes it with a special event. This year’s jamboree is Mewtwo and clone-Pokemon themed, celebrating the arrival of Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution on Netflix on Pokemon day.

The event runs from February 25 at 4 p.m. EST/1 p.m. PST (yes, before the actual Pokemon Day) through March 2 at the same time, and it brings with it the chance to catch some unique Pokemon.

Armored Mewtwo (from the film) is striking back in Pokemon GO, returning to five-star raids and sporting a special Charged attack called Psystrike. Its bringing Clone Pokemon like Clone Blastoise, Clone Charizard, and Clone Venusaur along with it in four-star raids as well.

If you use #GOsnapshot during the event, Niantic says there’s a chance Clone Pikachu will make an appearance as well.

No celebration is complete without a party, and Pokemon GO‘s Pokemon Day celebrations include a number of partying Pokemon as well. You might run into Pikachu and Eevee wearing party hats, and you’ll get party-hat-wearing Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle from 7km eggs, all of which could be Shiny as well.

Finally, as a limited-time bonus, Trainers can perform up to two Special Trades each day during the event. Special Trades are trades that let you transfer Shiny and Legendary Pokemon, among other things.

While all that’s going on, don’t forget Pokemon Sword and Shield are getting a brand-new mythical Pokemon on Pokemon Day, and the month-long GIgantamax Toxitricity event will be going on then as well.
