Celebrate SNKo de Mayo This Weekend!

Celebrate SNKo de Mayo by playing one of SNK's great games!

This upcoming Sunday is Cinco de Mayo. While most people are going to be getting drunk and eating tacos without any knowledge of the actual holiday, you should do something different. You should celebrate SNKo de Mayo by playing some SNK games.

What is SNKo de Mayo?

It's the new gaming holiday where players all over the world go through their collections to pull out and play some SNK favorites like the King of Fighters series, Metal Slug series, or Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move.

SNK games have, for one reason or another, almost always been popular in Mexico. So, friend and fellow GameSkinny contributor Noe Gomez and I will be making a video and posting it this Sunday in honor of SNKo de Mayo.

If you're not sure whether or not you own an SNK game, here is a list of games suitable to play on SNKo de Mayo.

Guess it's time to dig out the ol' King of Fighters Dream Match '99 disc.

Pfft. Not playing '98, 2k2, or 13? SCRUBLORD.

jkz. I have no room to talk. I'm actually garbage at SNK fighting games, save for Garou. Garou was my jam for a while.

DM '99 is basically 98 with some tweaks. I just prefer
DM '99 to vanilla '98. I do own the ultimate release of
    2k2 though.

Either way, both are better than 13.

Oh, and Last Blade is better than Garou. COME AT ME, BRO

Last Blade scares me. I entered a Last Blade 2 IRC tournament once and got rocked so hard my body was sore for days.

Also, Wakuwaku 7 is the pinnacle of SNK fighting games.

I counter your Wakuwaku 7 with Twinkle Star Sprites, despite their
not being of the same genre.

Fighter versus competitive shmup. Which wins?

Or let's do this legit old school: Capcom or SNK fighters? Wakuwaku 7
    vs. Pocket Fighter

I will forever and always be a Capcom fanboy despite disliking a lot of the decisions that company has made recently. One of my first memories was having a crush on Chun-Li when I was a toddler and my brother was playing Street Fighter II: the World Warrior.

    You're playing dirty now.

Can we just agree that there should be a Capcom vs. SNK 3?

I prefer SNK's fighting games, especially since they don't try so hard to
milk every cent you have out of you. Though the technical aspects
of their games have generally been deeper, and more enjoyable.

So, no. We can't agree. It has to be SNK vs. Capcom 3.
Or SNK x Arc System and toss Capcom in the dirt.
