Telltale Games Working On A Game Of Thrones Game

Telltale Games is working on a Game of Thrones Video Game for our

In “stuff that made me audibly giddy” news today: Telltale Games may be making a Game of Thrones video game. Hopefully, it’ll be nothing like the most recent Game Of Thrones “game” (air quotes on game) that was recently released and more like the beautiful The Walking Dead series.

IGN is reporting Telltale will be developing a game based on George R.R. Martins book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Of course more people know the hit HBO TV show, Game of Thrones. Officially, Telltale hasn’t confirmed this information yet. CEO of Telltale Dan Connors noted last month they were working on new “dream” licenses that  will be revealed soon. So, Game of Thrones could be one of those licenses (fingers crossed guys).

***Telltale is no stranger to telling stories about groups of… strangers***

It’s worth noting that in the book series, each chapter is broken up by character in a similar fashion to The Walking Dead: 400 Days. This leads to the biggest question of all…

What will the game be about?

There is rampant speculation as to what story the game will follow. At first glance, you would think the game would follow the TV show. I hope this isn’t the case. The show is beautifully created and honestly, doesn’t need to be retold in video game form. Especially if we already know where the story is going to end (heading into season 4).

***Perhaps Dragons will be in our prequel future***

IGN suggested a possible prequel to the series. Following Ned and the rebellion leading to the overthrow the mad King Aerys. This would include wars and full-blown dragons. This is a much better idea then following the current series. There is a lot of vagueness about the stories prior to the show starting. It would be interesting to sort of craft the kind of man Ned was before he became Hand of the King.

My favorite idea is to do something like The Walking Dead game series. If The Walking Dead has taught us anything; you can follow characters that don’t exist in any related medium and still tell an awesome… tale (Telltale joke anyone?). Westeros is a large, expansive place full of people who could care less about the iron throne. You could easily have Tyrion or The Red Lady jump into the story briefly then jump right back out.

Regardless, I can’t describe how excited I am for this game.

***I’m way more excited than she is***

What would you guys want from a Telltales Game of Thrones video game? How excited are you about this in general? Geek out in the comments!
