Well, Capcom has been revealing characters left and right for the upcoming Street Fighter V and it looks like everyone’s favorite Russian grappler is back!

Capcom has been real busy with showing off their roster of fighters like Karin and Rashid at TGS 2015. According the PlayStation Blog, Zangief was revealed recently at Russian gaming expo IgroMir. It’s good to see one of the classic Street Fighter characters returning, but it was not exactly a surprise as Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono was hinting at Zangief’s return via Twitter. Capcom has also mentioned that there would be two more classic character reveals alongside two more all-new characters.

For the veterans of the Street Fighter series, as you have no doubt seen from the trailer, it looks like Zangief’s fighting style is a mix of some of the old and some of the new.

Zangief smashing the competition

Nothing like piledriving your opponent into the concrete.

It seems that Capcom is keeping to Zangief’s classic style with plenty of body slams, suplexes and piledrivers. However, it seems that our favorite grappler is sporting some new abilities like V-Skill: Iron Muscle and V-Trigger: Cyclone Lariat. Cyclone Lariat looks awesome and apparently tapping the V-trigger buttons can make Zangief spin faster and even pull the opponent toward him.

New moves for Zangief

It looks like he has a decent kit with amazing attack power and some solid counters. Hopefully, this doesn’t mean that he is completely broken, as the trailer makes him seem pretty over powered. Still, Capcom has only shown us a bit of what Zangief has in his arsenal, and he is a a great addition to the game with new moves to smash the competition.
