Call of Duty: More than Meets the Eye, a COD/Transformers Mashup

What if Call of Duty and Transformers merged into one game?
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Say what you will about the Michael Bay-directed Transformers films, but they are insanely popular. All of them together have grossed over a billion dollars, and adults and children alike flock to the theatre to see the Autobots and Decepticons battle each other across the Globe. One aspect of the movies that I have always enjoyed is the interaction between the military and the Transformers. In Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the military created the Non-biological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty (NEST), where a special government unit would team up with the Autobots and hunt down Decepticons.

Since that time, I have always imagined a video game that would pay homage to this partnership. Imagine, if you will, a video game from Activision that took the two franchises of Call of Duty and Transformers and merged them together. Patrick Stewart (yes, Professor X) stands as President over a United States that’s been ravaged by Decepticons that are hell-bent on taking over the Earth. He meets with the United Nations, who agree to put away their differences and come together to stop this threat. They form NEST to hunt down these evil robots and stop their diabolical plans for world domination.

As a Human member of the NEST Team you will interact the same way as you do in any other Call of Duty game. Your view will be in first-person and you’ll have an array of weapons at your disposal. The big difference will be when you exit a vehicle, it turns into an Autobot and you’re given the option to stay a human or take over as your Transformer. This will only happen on certain missions. Depending on the level, you could only be a Human, a Transformer, or both. As a Transformer you’ll be able to switch between first and third-person view like The Fall of Cybertron and other Transformers games.

Lets say it’s an underwater level, you’ll be a human in a wetsuit. If it’s a level where you’re in the air, you could be a character like Skydive and only interact as a Transformer. Other levels, such as an infiltration mission could have you start as a Human to sneak around, and could end up with you blowing up a Decepticon-run Energon Factory as a Transformer.

The online mode for this game could consist of massive environments where you could use the air, land, and sea and switch between your Human and Cybertronian counterparts at will. It would be amazing to see a scene where you’re snowmobiling down a frosty mountainside and your vehicle throws you up in the air, transforms, shoots the attackers behind you, and then turns back into a snowmobile just as you’re about to hit the ground and the two of you continue on your journey.

Just as you’re about to dismiss this idea, remember that Activision owns both franchises. This isn’t that far-fetched as an idea. I just hope they give me credit when they merge the franchises around the release of Transformers 5 and I’m saying ‘I Told You So.’
