Chasing the Dragon

Asheron's Call is one of the oldest MMORPGs but still maintains a superior PvP system.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

I started playing MMORPGs back in 1999 with Asheron’s Call. I started off as a cook with a sword, and would only hunt to get more items so I could make pies.  I played until 2010, when they had extended the level cap all the way to 275 and went through multiple updates and 2 expansion packs.  I continue to chase the dragon, per say, for the excitement of the first time I started to play all the way back in 1999.  Specifically what I chase is the PVP from Asheron’s Call–you had the ability to actually dodge the spells, arrows, and even melee strikes.  I tried DAOC, WoW, Warhammer, EVE, Tera, Rift and many many more and I find the same thing in all of them–heat seeking magic spells, arrows and melee attacks.  I hope down the road more games come out with the ability to move the character and attack like a real cognitive player instead of knowing exactly how battles will end where paper beats rock, rock beats scissors and scissors beats paper.
