Leicestershire-based software company Rare used to be one the biggest small names in the industry back in the late 1990s, with titles such as Banjo-Kazooie, Conker’s Bad Fur, Perfect Dark, and the highly regarded GoldenEye 007. And, of course, you can’t go without mentioning one their more under-appreciated titles in 1999’s Jet Force Gemini.
Recently, YouTube footage of a cancelled sequel for the Game Boy Color surfaced. There’s not much gameplay to be found, there are a few interesting tidbits to take away from the video.
For one this intro is very similar to the cinematic that plays at the opening of the Nintendo 64 classic, showing the characters being attacked as they make the descent to a planet down below.
Also notable, is the absence of Vela, the female character. Only Juno (the male) and the dog Lupus are present in the Gameboy Color intro.
The final little scene shows the characters on the planet from a top-down view which we can assume is a little snippet of gameplay, similar to many other GBC titles.
While many remember Jet Force Gemini fondly, the game isn’t talked about like other Rare titles or even mentioned when many discuss old games. Would you like to see it make a comeback? Or is it better just to be remembered as it is?
