Sim City Casino Demo Video Gives this Sim City Fan Shivers Up His Spine

It's too early to separate hype from truth, but the Sim City videos we've seen are evidence of strong promise for the next installment in the venerable Sim City franchise.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Full disclosure: I am an unabashed Sim City fan. Now that you know that, let’s move on to the video.

Recommended Videos

The Sim City devs have released a new video that shows a bit more of the casino dynamics such as modular casino addons like the hotel. More importantly it shows great info about the multi-city region play including the fact that fire engines can come from another region.

The more of these videos I see the more I get excited about the possibilities of a modern, well made, simulation focused Sim City game. The info we see so far on Sim City indicates the following high level goals are being well served:

  1. A true Sim game – There is clearly a strong simulation underlying what they are doing.
  2. Modular Buildings – This is a nice blend of the building plopping from some other sim games like Tropico, but much more highly visual.
  3. Working Multi-Player – Region Play w/ Wonders! Figuring out multi-player and making it work for the solo city builders and those who want friends along for the ride, and those who have very different play styles or time commitments. I might play a Sim City game for 5 hours one day, but my friends will not!
  4. Modern Visuals – The graphical overlays looks amazing. The ability to visualize your city instead of reading spreadsheets is quite promising.

All in all the demos are showing a Sim City fanboy’s dream game. I will keep my fingers crossed that the game lives up the hype that is starting to well in my gamer brain. What do you think?
