The Legend of Zeldo: Lonk’s Awakening Available for iOS

Link's Awaking and Flappy Bird clone, The Legend of Zelda: Lonk's Awakening, is now available on the iOS app store.

No, that’s not a typo. Somehow, iOS developer Virtually Competent, LLC has slipped past the long arm of Nintendo law and released a game on the app store titled The Legend of Zeldo: Lonk’s Awakening

If that weren’t horrible enough, the developer cast originality aside and made the game a full-on Flappy Bird clone. That’s right. In the game, you play as hero, Zeldo, dodging familiar Zelda series obstacles by flapping your little body through the air. It’s safe to say the creators realized how hard they were stepping on Nintendo’s feet and decided to take it a bit further.

The game differs slightly from Flappy Bird in that it includes power-ups which players can choose from after completing a stage. These “enhancements” change gameplay elements such as allowing the player to take an extra hit, or altering the gravity in the stage and are corruptions of item names from the Zelda series. Why do you need these items? Because: “It’s dangerous to go alone,” of course!

While the game is riddled with stolen ideas, it is very much self-aware and makes the best of its existence with light plagaristic humor.

Lonk’s Awakening is currently available in the iOS app store for free, and will soon be released on Android as well. But for now, you can play the game in your browser, here, and witness all the wonderful badness in its glory. Just don’t give them more money, please.
