Spaceteam: The loudest game you’ll play in public.

It's a fun game, but some of its attempts at difficulty just curve into the annoying.

“Flush the quadraceptors!”

“Keep up the good work”

“Set hydroflux to 6!”

“Shake!”

This is the sound of a typical game of Sleeping Beast Games’ iOS title Spaceteam, featured here at PAX East. In this multiplayer party game, each player receives a set of controls with increasingly nonsensical labels. Sets of instructions scroll across the screen- the only problem is that they’re for your teammates, meaning that you’ll have to shout over each other to keep the commands coming. Fail, and your ship explodes.

The game makes for a good time for all involved until around round three, at which point I can almost guarantee that you’ll be reaching for your former best friend’s throat for not listening to your instructions. Ships will explode, blame will be passed, and voices will be lost.

The game is relatively difficult, especially later on when control panels begin to fall off the screen, instructions to shake devices come through, and the screen begins swirling.

For its fun driving gameplay, but rather annoying difficulty curve, I give Spaceteam an 8/10.
