Majora Mask’s Skull Kid in the New Smash Bros, More to Come at VGX?

Nintendo will be appearing at VGX tomorrow, could the new Smash Bros titles finally get named?

Now before you get too excited, he is only an Assist Trophy, and not a playable character. The fan appeal of the character is still undeniable as they also included a Majora’s Mask easter egg in Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

While series creator Masahiro Sakurai has been releasing a “pic of the day” on a regular schedule, the timing of this reveal brings up a few valid questions. The next Smash Bros. games are releasing next year, but neither the Wii U or 3DS version have official titles yet.

We know that Reggie Fils-Aime will be on stage at tomorrow’s VGX show on Spike to “present a new look at an upcoming Wii U game.” Smash Bros is certainly a Nintendo title most suited towards the average Spike TV demographic; although Super Mario 3D World is nominated for Game of the Year. The WiiU exclusive Bayonetta 2 also seems like a likely candidate.

The weeks leading up to VGX have certainly been interesting. Pete Hines from Bethesda squashed the rumors of a Fallout 4 reveal on Twitter:

The new trailers scheduled to appear are mostly next-gen titles we’ve been aware of like Thief, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Quantum Break, and of course Titanfall. Although that list also includes Broken Age, the Kickstarter-funded PC/Mobile game from Double Fine (who also was revealed as a developer in Microsoft’s ID@Xbox self-publishing program).

The VGX show promises some big reveals… but Spike made similar promises for their live PS4 and XBone launches that only left us with a “no duh” Uncharted 4 trailer. Now that Fallout 4 is out of the equation, perhaps we’ll see Mass Effect 4, which was teased back on N4 day. We also know that Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady has been hard at work on their next game, which might feature the Justice League. GOTY nominee Tomb Raider had a next-gen port accidentally revealed a few weeks ago as well.

VGX starts tomorrow, Saturday, December 7th at 6:00 p.m. ET on vgxlive.com and Spike TV (with TV’s Joel McHale!). Like I said in my very first post on GameSkinny a month ago, “seriously… put a playable Little Mac in the damn game.”
