The choice to play a game your own way is something that developers tote often, but isn’t something that truly comes to fruition once release time comes along. Eidos Montreal is promising that you can play Thief your own way; if you want to stealth your way through the game, go for it. Garrett isn’t known for this thieving abilities for nothing.
Eidos Montreal’s Adam Badke responded to the backlash from fans after Game Informer reported on Thief and how Garrett would be made more mainstream of a character. Badke assured that was not the case, as the initial design was a bit too gothic for the character. He follows up with:
“I can assure you we’re huge fans of the original games and we’ve done our homework to create a game that maintains the essence of the original. I can’t wait to show you more of the game and Garrett soon!“
This on its own is good news for fans of the Thief series, but even better is the fact that this new title will retain the play style options from the original series. Players will be able to interact with the environment and have multiple ways to handle each scenario, including opting out of killing enemies entirely. Nice!
Thief is scheduled for a 2014 release on PC, PlayStation 4, and other next generation platforms.
