New “-Ality” Revealed for Mortal Kombat X, Punishes Rage-Quitters

Mortal Kombat X introduces Quitalities as a deterrent for online rage-quitting.

We’ve seen Fatalities, Brutalities, Babalities, Animalities, and Friendships punish fallen opponents throughout the history of Mortal Kombat. One more finishing move is being added to the list in Netherrealm Studio’s latest entry into the franchise, and this time it’s targeting sore losers.

Quitalities, revealed during the latest Kombat Kast, are a quirky new punishment for online rage-quitters. The tame finisher blows up the head of opponents who leave the match early, leaving the victor to bask in what little glory can be claimed from a forfeit.

A Special Fatality to Use on Rage Quitters

This is only a slight improvement over Mortal Kombat 9‘s system, which simply punished the quitter with a “loss” on their record. Other online fighting games such as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS have gone an extra step, banning players who consistently drop out of online matches. The team at Netherrealm disagree with this method, and believe they’ve found a solution in “making the winner look better.” They hope that with the popularity of game streaming, players will post videos online of exceptional Quitalities in order to further shame the losers.

The Kombat Kast featured other goodies as well, including the announcement that the Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us PlayStation 3 fight sticks will be compatible with the PlayStation 4 version of the game; and of course, they didn’t leave us without some good ol’ fashioned Fatalities. To check out these announcements first hand or to see Fatalities from new characters Takeda Takahashi and Kung Jin, check out the video on the Mortal Kombat Official Youtube Channel.
