Heroes of Larkwood: The Game That Helped Me Through My Worst Summer EVER !!!

RPG fan? have a windows phone or RT? need a good game? have a couple of dollars to spare? go check it out.

I am going to talk about a game on the WP or RT store, Heroes of Larkwood by Nate Monster. It’s a RPG game exclusively for the Windows platform (WP 7-8 , Windows8 , Windows RT).

Heroes of Larkwood is a treat for old school gamers who were in love with Final Fantasy and Dragon’s Quest, but the new generation of gamers may find this game a bit slow and dull with the graphics. Combat is party based, each player can choose to play a party of 4 out of 8 available classes. Online play is supported which adds a bit of MMO factor to this game, although the developer has clearly stated that it is not an MMO. If you have a Windows 8 PC and a WP you can play the game on both your devices though cloud sync, so you don’t have to start two different games for both your devices.

One of the most important parts of any RPG is the storyline. Nate has done justice to the game by providing a fairly good and not-too-childish-story. You wake up at an Inn in a village called Larkwood, and are sent to the inn’s basement to get some stuff. There you discover a Goblin with an invasion plan on the Overworld. This sets you off on an adventure to find the mastermind behind the organized assault of this scale. It’s basically a Light vs Dark fight where the Dark has risen and you have to find the shattered pieces of Light (Light sacrificed itself many years ago to imprison Dark). Each piece of Light is with a super strong Monster or a Boss. The current content ends when you find the last piece of Light.

The next thing a player looks for in a game is the gameplay. Each player can select his party of 4 from 8 available classes. The classes are broadly classified into tanks, melee DPS (damage), spell casters, and healers. There are also hybrid classes who can fulfill 2 roles instead of a specialized role. Fighting monsters will reward one with XP which is needed to level up. Monsters will also drop gear, spellbooks  and potions sometimes. The current level cap is set to 25.

There is also a guild feature while playing online. You  can capture different cities to win your guild points. There’s a daily fishing derby which helps you get more points for your guild. Apart from gold, there is another currency called Guild Tokens (GT). These can be found as random rare drops from monsters, also winning fishing derbies and capturing cities will earn you these tokens.

Another fast way to earn these are by betting. Thats right, betting.  Also winning the daily lucky draw gives you huge amount of GTs (the whole pot).

Something about the developer; Nate Monster is a very active developer with two hit RPGs and two more in the making. He is very active and constantly updates his games. The online community is great and very welcoming and friendly. So a good time is what comes bundled with this game.

Heroes of Larkwood is available on Windows store in both paid and add-supported free versions. However the add-supported free version for the Windows8 (PC and RT) is restricted till lvl 20 and does not support online play. There are talks to completely scrap the free version for windows8 (PC and RT) in the future.

So if you are into old school RPGs or basically any RPGs and have a WP or win8 PC/Tab, Heroes of Larkwood is the game for you. One of the best games available on windows store and for a shockingly fair price of 2$.
