COD: Black Ops 2 Developer Issued Death Threats as Some Players Wildly Overreact to Fractions of Seconds

...if, in the course of millions of hours of gameplay and the data to go with it, weapons are found to be more effective or less effective than they should be to keep that performance balanced, they are adjusted. - Dan Amrich

Following the latest patch for COD: Black Ops 2 some supposed “fans” of the game have thought the need to issue death threats to Treyarch design developer David Vonderhaar, via Twitter.

The backlash has included threats against Vonderhaar’s family, including saying he should die in a fire or kill himself. The changes which include a balancing of Multiplayer Gaming, include:

  • AN-94: Damage slightly reduced.
  • DSR 50: Rate of fire reduced.
  • Ballista: Rate of fire slightly reduced

 Vonderhaar then went to Twitter to explain how these changes would affect a players game;

“The DSR fire time was 0.2 seconds. It’s now 0.4 seconds,” he wrote. “The rechamber time was 1.0 seconds. It’s now 1.1 seconds.”

 “Let me put some perspective into your life because I do care about what you say,” he continued. “Not sure these fractions of seconds are worth the threats of violence.”

The developer, who often uses social media to talk to fans of the series and answer their questions, is one of the more high profile developers for the Activision game.

The backlash has been protested by Dan Amrich, the Activision Community Manager, on his blog. He laments in his statement about the assumptions people make of gamers when stories like this happen, and commends Vonderhaar on his patience in dealing with the haters.
