MtG: 11 Most Expensive Dominaria United Cards

Join the hype and watch out for the most expensive MtG cards from the Dominaria United set.

This is the time of the year when Magic: The Gathering experiences its annual standard format rotation, shifting some of the older sets out of the limelight and take a portion of their value with them.

Dominaria United is a significant set not only due to standard rotation, but also due to the return of some significant reprints from the past. This will surely shake up the Magic card market, and bring in some fresh investments.

As always, the commander format will have the highest impact on the card prices this time around, so be sure to check out this top list of the most expensive MtG cards from Dominaria United.

Note that the listed prices correspond to the date of this article's publishing: August 31, 2022.

Silverback Elder

  • Regular art price: $9.96
  • Extended art price: $20.47

Apparently, green creatures haven't been pushed enough in the previous sets, so Wizards of the Coast decided to introduce another overpowered monster in Dominaria United.

Anyway, that doesn't mean that it will keep the initial high price, as there isn't much interest in this card in any of the formats. It's simply too expensive for standard, and not powerful enough for commander.

The best prognosis is that Silverback Elder will drop to around $5 a piece, and hopefully stays there, if things will look as they do now for this ape shaman.

Shivan Devastator

  • Regular art price: $10.69
  • Extended art price: $16.26

A flexible flying haster will always have value regardless of the time and the format.

Currently, Shivan Devastator has been sighted by the standard, modern, and commander players as a candidate for some powerful red decks. But don't expect its price to get too high.

There is definitely an interest in it, taking into account recent market fluctuations connected with this card. If Shivan Devastator goes up in price after the release, then it won't hit anything close to its pre-release price of $30, but it can and probably will reach $15 mark.

Karn, Living Legacy

  • Regular art price: $11.46
  • Borderless art price: $15.58

A new Karn planeswalker has been terribly hyped before the release, but the price has dropped significantly.

This shows that the interest isn't there anymore once its abilities have been revealed. Nobody wants to play it, not even commander players, who can always find space for some weirdly specific cards like this one.

The hype for Karn, Living Legacy keeps dwindling, and don't expect it to stop falling in price any time soon. It's simply not very good!

Plaza of Heroes

  • Regular art price: $12.31
  • Extended art price: $14.64

Here is the best new land from Dominaria United set. It is clearly made for commander crowd, and it shows in the amount of interest from the EDH community. It's huge!

There is a high chance that Plaza of Heroes will get even more expensive than it is now, as the pre-release prices have begun at $10 a pop, which indicates a definite bullish market.

The initial prognosis is that in the next few months this land may double up in price, as more and more commander players will want to include it in their 99.

Karn's Sylex

  • Regular art price: $12.43

There is a lot of text on this legendary artifact, but it all comes down to a flexible AoE removal effect. It cannot be activated the turn you play it unless you have ways to untap it immediately.

There are simply too many requirements for the removal to happen, including the cost of 3 mana, albeit colorless. Still, it's a decent effect in less-than-ideal packaging, and this card will most likely tank on the market.

There is only a very tiny interest in it from the modern and commander crowd, which doesn't guarantee anything particularly exciting for its future price.

Vesuvan Duplimancy

  • Regular art price: $13.14
  • Extended art price: $16.46

Vesuvan Duplimancy is one of the most transparent cards form the new set, meaning that it probably has the clearest outcome for its market share.

Nobody wants this card except EDH players, and even among them the interest rather narrow. If it performs well in its specific niche of commander format, then it may keep its current price. Otherwise, expect a very slow decline in pricing.

Orvar players will be delighted to play Vesuvan Duplimancy, but that alone doesn't make this card a good investment.

Jodah, the Unifier

  • Regular art price: $14.11
  • Showcase art price: $14.34

EDH community loves 5-color commanders, and Jodah, the Unifier has a very powerful effect, which definitely makes him an appealing commander.

Unfortunately, all this power doesn't make up for a solid investment, as Jodah has been steadily dropping in price since the moment it was revealed.

Sisay players will grab this one without hesitation, but they will also make sure that Jodah stays in the relatively safe market space, where it will be protected from unexpected price spikes.

Serra Paragon

  • Regular art price: $21.05
  • Extended art price: $29.03

Let's be honest, Serra Paragon is a fantastic card!

It has all the makings of a staple card that will be played in various white decks across various formats. But it looks like this angel has now mostly become the darling of modern players, who absolutely love abilities that bring back lands and other permanents from the graveyard.

It is not as overblown as Lurrus of the Dream-Den, but it has the potential to get more expensive. Of course, there is no definite answer, but making an assumption that it will gain another $3-4 would not be out of reason.

Timeless Lotus

  • Regular art price: $34.98

Artifacts that have a "Lotus" word in the name always get extremely hyped during pre-release. Well, Timeless Lotus is no exception, as it traded at around $80 right after the reveal.

As you see, the price dropped significantly and will keep dropping without a doubt. It's a similar case of Karn's Sylex, another legendary artifact from Dominaria United that will be soon forgotten.

Surely, 5-color commander players will be happy to get their hands on Timeless Lotus, but that means nothing for the overall MtG market. So expect a significant drop in price for this one, too.

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

  • Regular art price: $37.84
  • Showcase art price: $43.59

About a month ago this card was leaked with fake text, which made many players believe that Sheoldred was going to be a new Vorinclex, another powerful Phyrexian Praetor, but in black.

This built up a lot of hype. To the surprise of many, once the actual abilities of Sheoldred, the Apocalypse have been revealed, it didn't ruin it, but made even more players excited to play this card in commander format.

All this means that Sheoldred will have a lot of buying power, although it's really hard to say when exactly it hits the ceiling.

Liliana of the Veil

  • Regular art price: $44.11
  • Borderless art price: $51.57

Liliana of the Veil is by far the most important reprint of 2022. Seeing this modern staple still going strong after 11 years on the market is a good sign for any Magic investor.

The new supply will naturally drop the prices all across the market, but eventually it will stabilize, and Liliana of the Veil will be once again a highly sought out card.

The main sentiment here is to wait for the price to drop after the release, and then buy it out with the expectation of a slow market build up.
