The best sit-stand desks for gamers on any budget

Looking for the perfect sit-stand desk? We have you covered.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

For a while now, we've all been hearing about how sitting too much is bad for our health and there are great benefits of standing desks.

Of course, there is some debate about how valid these claims are, but most of us can agree that having the option to change your position from time to time can be a nice thing. Even sitting can make you tired after a while and being able to stand up and stretch those muscles while still getting things done can feel amazing -- even if that thing you're doing is playing video games.

So, with that in mind we've compiled a list of some of the best options in sit-stand desks for just about every price range -- including everything from the "I'm living off Ramen this week" budget to the "sure, I've got money to burn" budget.

Of course, there are a lot of options for sit-stand desks out there, but most of them are similar to those listed here and run right around the same price. The big difference is that these are rated well or have received good reviews from tech sites -- and with a few of the ones listed here, you won't find any others like them.

24" Adjustable Height Standing Desktop Desk

Rating: No Reviews Yet

Price: $74.00 + $11.29 Shipping

Buy it: Amazon

While not the most attractive solution, this desktop desk will work in a pinch, and it has the added benefit of being the most affordable option without you having to build it yourself.

The surface area is 24" wide x 22" deep, so it's just big enough to hold your monitor keyboard and mouse. The height can be adjusted by about 5 inches, allowing you to set it at a comfortable position.

VIVO Sit-Stand Adjustable Workstation Standing Desk Mount

Rating: 5/5 (2 Reviews)

Price: $109.99

Buy it: Amazon

Another cost effective solution, this can be mounted on the back of your desk. The great thing about this option is that it's not only adjustable height-wise but also features 180-degree swivel and 260-degree arm rotation -- meaning you can move your keyboard and monitor around with you while you work.

As an added bonus, it even features integrated cable management to hide all those cords.

Varidesk Height-Adjustable Standing Desk

Rating: 4.5 - 5/5

Price: $225 + $50 Shipping to $400 + $100 Shipping

Buy it: Amazon

One of the more popular options for converting your existing desk to a sit-stand desk, the Varidesk has something for just about everyone. These desks come in varying sizes and shapes (some are even designed for corner spaces) and can be adjusted from a flat on the desk position to upright in about three seconds.

Most of the desks feature a separate surface for the keyboard and mouse, allowing you to have your arms at a comfortable angle while having  your monitor(s) at eye level.

Ergo Desktop Kangaroo Pro Jr

Rating: 3.5/5 (12 Reviews)

Price: $437

Buy it: Amazon

Perfect for smaller spaces, the Kangaroo Pro Junior is a smaller and less expensive version of the Kangaroo Pro. The monitor and keyboard surface adjust separately, allowing you to set both at the height most comfortable for you. As with other options like this, both can be set at a normal position for when you're sitting at your desk.

Jarvis Desk by Ergo Depot

Rating: 4/5 (75 reviews)

Price: $525.00 Frame Only (Tops available through company site at varying prices.)

Buy it: Amazon

Gamers who want an elegant, minimalist solution for their sit-stand desk need only look as far as the Jarvis Electric Adjustable desk from Ergo Depot. The Jarvis adjusts between 23.5" to 49.25" tall and 44" to 82" wide, and can support 350 pounds while doing it. The best part is, all you have to do is press some buttons.

Unlike many other desks, the Jarvis is a stand-alone -- meaning you won't be adding a piece to your already existing desk. Depending on what you want, you can buy just the frame and pick up the top somewhere else -- maybe you have a nice piece of reclaimed wood sitting around -- or you can order the desk directly from Ergo Depot and get your choice of materials.

EvoDesk Gaming Desk

Price: Starting at $599

Buy it: EvoDesk

EvoDesk is the only company offering a gaming-specific sit-stand desk. And while that's cool enough on its own, it's not really the biggest feature of this desk.

The really great thing about EvoDesks is that they allow you to design your own. You can choose everything from the shape and material of your desktop to the size and finish of your frame. EvoDesk even allows you to pick the type of controller you want on the desk, whether or not you want a keyboard platform and a variety of optional mounts for your speakers, case, display and more.

Effectively, you can build your very own gaming command center -- even complete with a treadmill system.

Of course, all these additions will add to the price tag, but having that many options is pretty sweet.

XDesk Terra

Price: Starts around $1500

Buy it: XDesk

For those with some spare cash to burn who are looking for something that's lightweight and easy on the environment while looking like a massive command center beast, this is for you. XDesk's line of Terra desks are electric adjustable sit-stand desks built out of aluminum and bamboo.

The overall look is pretty basic, but the desk should hold up pretty well. It's even one of the top choices on sites like Forbes, The Wirecutter, and more.

Standesk 2200 DIY IKEA Desk

Parts from IKEA: Lack side table, Viktor Shelf, Ekby Valter brackets

How to instructions: I am not a programmer

Cost: ~$20 and a little patience

If you want to experiment with sit-stand options but aren't ready to make the commitment yet, you can try this DIY version. The brain-child of Colin Nederkoorn and Ryan Witt, the Standesk 2200 is a simple IKEA hack. Using an $8 side table, a $6 shelf, some brackets, and some screws you can build an inexpensive test desk.

Most sites that report using the Standesk 2200 claim to eventually make the jump to a more permanent solution later on.

And there you have it. Eight options for getting yourself standing while you game. You're sure to find something here that you'll like. But if you're still not sold on the whole standing thing... Give this last option a try. You might find you like it.
