Make way for the new hotness -- Overwatch's subreddit exceeds Reddit's front page in views

During launch, Overwatch's subreddit managed to outdo Reddit's front page in views!

Overwatch's popularity continues to rise, surpassing even the Reddit front page. According to Reddit employee Justin Bassett, the 271,000+ subscriber subreddit accelerated in view-count the moment Overwatch's servers went online on launch day.

Compared to Reddit's front page with 60,000 page views at the time, the Overwatch subreddit went for over 80,000 page views for 17 minutes straight. Bassett commented on how remarkable the feat was, noting only two other examples of the same moment on Reddit (specifically Obama's and Psy's Ask Me Anything sessions).

Here is a graph from Bassett's twitter, showing the sudden rise in views during launch (subreddit in green, Reddit's front page in orange):

Overwatch is a new multiplayer game published and developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The game previously opened a beta testing during May 5th-9th, spurring an overwhelming interest in Blizzard's baby steps to the first person shooter genre. Since May 24th, Overwatch is out for both PC and consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4).
