PlayStation 4 to Be Released at $399, PS+ Required for Online Gaming

Three hundred and ninety nine US dollars!

Wondering what the PS4’s price point is? Worry not, my friend, because the console will be released at a $399 price point in North America!

This is a full hundred dollars less than the Xbox One, which was announced for a $499 MSRP.

This bit of news is most welcome, but do keep in mind that online play will be restricted to PlayStation Plus members on the PlayStation 4! A cheaper price point, but the addition of an online pay wall — it’s hard to gauge how I feel here.

One of the bigger bragging rights PlayStation 3 owners have had this generation was the fact that the console’s online gaming was free. Sony is going to have to step it up all around to make up for the paywall, but it looks like they may be doing just that with the inclusion of additional streaming services. Streaming media services, however, will not require a PS+ account to use. Not quite a win-win, but fairly close due to the multiple benefits PS+ members get in the first place.
