Ridiculous Fishing is Selected to the PAX Indy 10

The PAX industry experts are 'HOOKED' on Vlambeer's wacky take on fishing with chainsaws and toasters.

As part of the upcoming PAX Prime event in Seattle (August 30th – September 2nd), the folks at Penny Arcade asked their expert panel of 50 industry insiders to pick the Top 10 independent games, based on gameplay and fun factor.

Vlambeer’s Ridiculous Fishing made the list. Actually, this is a new and improved version of the 2010 hit. The original was nominated for the 2011 Independent Games Festival Awards.

The Crazy Old Man and the Sea

As the player, you are Billy. He’s an old man of the sea, who’s had a rough life and an uncertain, chequered past.

So, he takes to the water to discover himself and to hook fish. And hook, he does. This isn’t your Daddy’s fishing game of picking a wiggler and then watching a bobber until a fish takes a bite maybe an hour later.

In this game, you try to send the hook down as far as possible and to hook as many fish as possible on the way out.

It’s fast, it’s funny and it’s a little nuts.

Throw your hook over, guide it down, and reel’em in by the boat load.

Vlambeer promises:

Hours of gameplay across the continents including a never-ending Infinite arcade world.

Dozens of unlockables, weapons and items including popular fishing gear like the Most Expensive Hairdryer In The World and A Bowling Ball.

Fish that become hats.

No IAP – buy the game, play the game. No additional costs, no hidden fees. Even the hats are IAP-free.

And fish that become hats. (Didn’t they already say that?)

PAX PRIMER

If you’re not familiar with PAX, it’s Penny Arcade’s annual expo devoted entirely to gaming (of which there are three: East, Prime, and AU). No comic books stacked on tables, no cable TV stars signing autographs for $30 a throw, and no overdressed movie producers hocking their latest CGI-fests.

Instead, you have a lounge for the hand-held folks, a huge network gaming room for the MMORPG and FPS crowd, console freeplay stations and tables full of tabletop games. And an exhibit area that can only be compared to E3 for its scope. And the best news is – you the gaming public actually gets to go!
