During the Microsoft Conference at GamesCom 2015, Remedy Entertainment revealed a gameplay trailer for the long awaited game Quantum Break, which is scheduled to be released on April 6, 2016.
This is our first time getting a look at any gameplay footage. Although Quantum Break was scheduled for release in 2014, the game was delayed twice, pushing the title back to a vague 2016 release.
The trailer begins with a cinematic opening that features so many TV actors and such stunning visuals that make us wonder if they are trying to create a game or a movie. The game is very focused on the concepts of time travel as well as the physics of such an idea. The developer implements these ideas in the form of some very unique mechanics that separate Quantum Break from your average cover shooter.
In the game, time has broken, and the one person who could fix it has been killed by a man named Paul, played by Aidan Gillen.
This break in time gives the character the ability to stop time and warp physics to give himself a shield from bullets, a sort of earthquake ability that sends foes flying, and explosive warp shield that acts as an explosive that the player can set off by shooting them.
The player will not be completely overpowered by these abilities, however, as Paul’s men, an entity referred to as Monarch, have technology that can also warp time. The player will have to use these abilities creatively whenever he encounters them.
Although involving time travel gives this game potential to have an engaging story, dealing with time travel can be tricky. This game has been a long time coming, but the final product will show us if this game is truly something special.
