Guild Wars 2 Bringing Improvements to Fractals

Guild Wars 2 is going to improve its fractal dungeons towards the end of January by easing the restrictions on party formation and allowing disconnected party members to reconnect.

Guild Wars 2 is constantly updating and looking to enhance their overall experience.  After their recent round-table chat with some top PvP players, it was only a matter of time before we saw news regarding improvements to the PvE experience as well.  Now we’ve heard from lead designer Isaiah Cartwright and have word of improvements.

Fractals?

For those who don’t already know, fractals are a type of dungeon-delving opportunity one can enter in Lion’s Arch.  They are effectively min-dungeons that parties of players can venture through.  A party gathers, agrees on a difficulty, and then enters a round made up of several fractals.

Fractals matter because they grant increasing rewards the higher the difficulty chosen and those rewards include ascended gear, making them valuable both in terms of the karma gained and in the items earned.

What’s improving?

In Guild Wars 2‘s current set-up, if a party member gets disconnected during a fractal, they can’t rejoin.  This causes obvious problems for them and for their party, which now must complete the fractal while being short a player.  Arenanet will be updating this system so that this no longer happens, with the disconnected player being able to rejoin the party to continue on.

They’re also improving the ease with which players who’ve little experience with fractals can join parties.  Completing a round raises a given character’s fractal level, and currently a player can only join a party for fractals if he would not be the lowest fractal level in that party.

The improvement will have that restriction removed, with a player able to select any difficulty up to the highest available in the party, but any players with a fractal level over that difficulty will only gain karma for completing the round.  Their fractal level will remain unchanged.

Ideally this will make it easier for everyone to find a party to get back to actually playing Guild Wars 2 faster.  The changes should go into effect sometime at the end of January.
