Some games have rough developments, and others are doomed to stay in Early Access forever and never see a full launch. After so long in EA, 7 Days to Die had moments where it seemed like that’d be the case. However, 7 Days to Die is finally leaving Early Access after more than a decade.
After More Than a Decade, 7 Days to Die Gets a 1.0 Launch
In 2013, 7 Days to Die entered its Early Access period on Steam. During the last 11 years, it’s seen plenty of changes. As somebody who’s played from the beginning, I loved watching the game evolve. The experience grew smoother over the years, and new content was consistently added. Now, it’s time to move on to the next step of development. So, the Fun Pimps look to launch 1.0 this June for PC. Which is followed by a July launch for the console version.
Console Players Need a New Version for 1.0
With the 1.0 version’s release, the price of 7 Days to Die will increase to $44.99 USD. However, the developers are offering a last-chance sale on Steam until April 29. The downside is that console players will need to buy the 1.0 version with the new price. This is the case even if they previously purchased the legacy version. In the announcement, this is said to be due to significant changes in console hardware in the time between the legacy launch and the 1.0 launch.
PC Players Don’t Need to Purchase Another Copy
If you’ve already purchased a copy on Steam in the past, you won’t need to spend any more money. You’ll have access to the 1.0 version when it launches and updates the version you currently have. So, if you’re interested in 7 Days to Die and considering playing it on the PC, you have a few more days to grab a cheaper version.
After the 1.0 launch, the Fun Pimps have released its tentative roadmap for new content it wants to add in the future. The dates are subject to change, but the team behind the game says that large updates are set to launch in Q4 2024, Q2 2025, and Q4 2025. So, even though the Early Access journey draws to an end, it certainly isn’t the end of new content.
It’s taken a long time and a lot of updates, but 7 Days to Die leaves Early Access after more than a decade this June. If you’re just starting out or haven’t played in a while, check out our 7DTD guide hub for topics like how to get Clay or the best ways to cure infection.
