A Bloodstained Ritual of the Night Sequel is in the Works

Another Bloodstained game is currently in development, though 505 and ArtPlay admit that it's not that far along just yet.

It looks like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be getting a sequel at some point, and it’s currently in the very (very) early stages of development. The news of a sequel was packed into a recent financial report before being confirmed by the game’s official Twitter account.

Aside from the fact that the game is in development, there isn’t much else to go on at this point. Neither publisher 505 Games nor developer ArtPlay gave any further information on the RotN sequel. There’s no release window or release date, and it’s unclear on which platforms the Metroidvania action-platformer will whip onto.

The tweet from the Bloodstained Twitter accounts said: “Regarding recent reports, 505 Games and Artplay are in very early planning stages for a Bloodstained sequel. However, current development resources are focused on completing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night‘s upcoming content. We have a lot planned for you.”

While there’s an official Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sequel in the works, and ArtPlay is working on even more content for the original, the Koji Igarashi spiritual successor to Castlevania has received quite a bit of love since its release in June 2019.

Since then, the game has received two new playable characters, classic mode (and inside that the unforgiving 1986 mode), boss rush mode, and a crossover event, to name a few.

The game’s 2021 roadmap looks to bring to RotN Chaos Mode, Versus Mode, another crossover, and a third playable character. According to the roadmap, ArtPlay has plans to bring even more to the game after that, though nothing appears to be set in stone just yet.

That means that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night 2 (or whatever the sequel ends up getting named) could be quite a ways off. Hopefully, not. We’ll just have to wait and see. Either way, RotN Is currently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iPhone, and Android. Its 2D spinoffs, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, are available as well, though not on mobile devices.
