In an interview between Famitsu and Kotaku, Nintendo’s golden child, Shigeru Miyamoto said that Nintendo is working on a new franchise to release on the Wii U.
In Famitu’s interview Miyamoto says:
Next Spring, with the release of Mario Kart 8, we’ll have a general selection available, so I’ve been thinking it would be a good time to bring out a new franchise.
When pressed for details:
I can’t say too much in detail right now, but I’ve been pretty busy with this title these days.
Let me say; as a long time Nintendo fan who has been dissapointed with their more recent showings it would be nice to see something new come from the father of many of Nintendo’s greatest franchises in the near future.
