Ain’t That a Kick in the Cutie Mark: My Little Pony Online Shuttered

My Little Pony Online, an MMO based on the cartoon and rampant fandom, has shut down, according to a post on the still-operational official forum.

The dev team released the MMO’s first episode only a month ago after over a year of work, but Hasbro, who owns all rights to the franchise, wasted no time moving in to protect their copyright. Episode 1: First Contact launched on November 1. By November 18, the Bronies behind the game posted that the venture was “no longer operational,” but could not give further details because of the nature of the situation.

On a brighter note, the creators haven’t been completely broken. They’re developing a new (copyright friendly) pony-themed game under the name Starlight Studios (a tribute to the Friendship is Magic and My Little Pony Tales character). Although they’ve retained most of their team through the legal troubles, they are still recruiting for folks to help with the new project.
